The Icelandic Patchwork & Quilting Society, Íslenska bútasaumsfélagið, was established in the year 2000. At the inaugural meeting there were 140 members from most parts of Iceland and today there are 430. The Board consists of five members. The association's law states that no one can be chairperson for more than five years.
The purpose of the association is to strengthen and promote interest in and knowledge of patchwork and quilting; encourage and enhance contacts to and among members; and to serve as a link to foreign patchwork associations.
In order to achieve this aim, we publish the association's magazine twice yearly; hold monthly meetings from September to March with lectures, illustrative examples, and show and tell; hold an annual General Meeting and Quilt Festival & Show each year in spring; and organize exhibitions.
