Dansk Patchwork Forening was founded in 1986 and even though Denmark is a small country with no old tradition of patchwork and quilting, the guild now has 6,000 members. Traditional and contemporary work are of equal importance within the guild and membership is open to anybody who is interested in patchwork and quilting. The guild is run by a board of 5 persons, one of whom is the international representative.
A full colour quarterly magazine, Kludemagasinet, is published by the guild and in August – in connection with the annual general meeting – an exhibition as well as a number of workshops are held.
Within the guild there are 63 local groups throughout the country. Members of these groups get together once or twice a month to enjoy quilting together and to make quilts for charity, e.g. children's homes in Denmark or SOS Children's Villages. The enthusiasm of the groups is also seen by the large number of festivals and exhibitions being held all over Denmark.
The guild has a very close co-operation with the Nordic countries and every third year a Nordic Quilt Festival is held alternately in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
